I finally made bread
After a week of trials, and tribulations. I finally made both white, and wholemeal bread that looked attractive, and was edible. I have passed it around my family, who have all rated it TEN. I have begun to get the 'feel' of the dough. And learning to have the patience. We are off on holiday tomorrow, (caravanning in Cornwall), and I have today, made fresh bread to take. I must have trolled every site that mentions the word 'bread', but all the info is here. Not great on baguette, as yet, but that will come when we return. I was determined to mix and knead by hand. My daughter takes the 'cant be doing with that', and uses her panasonic. Which is good, I admit. And even Nigella in her book, almost suggests that a trip to the local bakers save all the hassle. But I am loving the experience. As a skilled carpenter, then later a biker/mechanic, it must be the artisan mentality in me, that says 'I can do that'. Just loving it. Thanks
Hi, Jonesy.
Welcome to TFL!
It sounds like you are hooked.
Your comment about your "artisan mentality" is interesting. My "day job" involved no mechanical tasks, and I'm not very handy with machines or fixing stuff. So bread making and cooking meet my need for a hands-on craft and an "art" activity that is not met by my profession or other hobbies
Anyway, this is a great place. As you will see, there is a wealth of knowledge among the members and a readiness to share it.
Enjoy!
David
