The Fresh Loaf Slow?

The website has been slow to load for me the past several days. Pinging thefreshloaf.com times out. Anyone else having this problem?

Yes! Same here. I also get complaints about it not being secure but I'm guessing that is related to the timeout.

I also get complaints about it not being secure

This is because the server has not been upgraded to use HTTPS instead the older HTTP.  You can tell because the URLs begin with http:. Actually, it's supposed to be possible to use https, but the site's security certificate hasn't been set up correctly.

I don't know why the response is so slow just now.  It could be the browsers automatically trying https first before failing and dropping back to http, but I'm not sure.  Anyway, something's changed in the last day or two, which makes it seems like something new has come up.

My browser shows https://www.thefreshloaf.com/

It says the certificate is valid as was issued on the 12th. They are using Let's Encrypt and it renews every 90 days.

Mine (Vivaldi) claimed there was a problem with the cert.  But niw it's not finding a problem.  Yay!

But it's back to normal now.

Each release of an operating system version (when I am not upgrading), I get this on multiple sites.  Particularly for my Mac stuff as safari is linked to the OS. Some sites eventually update after a couple of days and the issue goes away, but more and more sites are no longer functional.

One way to mitigate the issues (although not perfect) is to move to a browser that isn't tied to operating system version (eg Firefox). However, the tide is only going one way...made worse at the moment by the current major jump in chip power (both Mac and PC).

Sadly, this lack of internet functionality is going to leave most older hardware just legacy status.
