Will a Komo Classic in Beech last?

When researching Walnut vs. Beech, it seems that Beech is temperamental and could possibly Crack in temperature variations. Is Beech a mistake? Will it last?

Beech is used for many purposes, including musical instruments, railroad ties, building chalets in Europe, and furniture. Our dining chairs are made from Beech. I would assume the wood casing of these grain mills is mostly for aesthetic purposes. I can't imagine anyone's kitchen being such an extreme environment.

that is about 7 years old.  It still looks like new.  The joints are all still tight, and the corners are still in perfect shape, as are the funnel bowl and lid.  I have wiped it down once or twice over the years with a tiny bit of mineral oil to freshen up the finish, and I'd have to say it still looks perfect.  Given that I must move it from storage to counter, and then back to storage every time I use it due to lake of a permanent spot on the counter, I'd say yes, it holds up.

Just one baker's opinion.

It doesn't affect functionality, but was still disappointing. It is worth noting that I live in an old house with radiator heat. It gets extremely dry in the winter months but I do treat it with board oil. The crack is on the side, right where the hopper fits into the housing.

EDIT: Turns out there's a similar crack on the opposite side, but you can't see it unless you remove the the hopper, which I just did so my woodworker husband could try to fix it. He said he'd have to completely remove the works from the housing and it's not worth it bc the visible crack is against a wall where its not noticeable. So yeah, it's disappointing. I don't know if walnut would perform better for the money.

Sorry to hear about this. I purchased mine Nov 2022 so hopefully I'll have no issues.

This is listed on the PHG site: Warranty Length12 years

Have you contacted the distributor and or the manufacturer?

TBH, it doesn't affect performance and doesn't really bother me, but it might worsen over the years so I should probably contact PHG and see what they say. I did purchase from them. Thanks much for the tip on that, Tony!  –AG

I also own the classic in beech and have had no issues. I’ve had it and the sifter in excess of eight years and constantly change between the two pieces on a weekly basis. Mine shows no wear whatsoever.
