Where to buy flours?

Hi there!

I'm relatively new to bread making and I haven't gone outside the grocery store for flour yet. Wondering the best websites/companies to get new flour from. Any recommendations?

Thank you!

It's probably helpful if you say where you are located. It seems like Northern CA has a lot of options (like Central Milling) whereas NYC (where I am) has fewer. It seems prohibitively expensive to have local flours shipped, so I just started ordering Farmer Ground Flour from the Union Square green market.

Hello - I live in NYC as well.  I can find Farmer Ground flour at Whole Foods and at the Union Square market.  I haven't been able to figure out how to order it, so sometimes I can't get the flour that I want.

How do you order it?

Thanks.

You can email grains@grownyc.org

They have a product list online that you need to dig around for and then just email them a few days in advance of pickup. There are some pretty big discounts for buying in bulk. For example I bought 25lbs of FGF for $32 versus 2lbs for $5 - half price.

If you every want to share an order let me know!

I'm just learning about where to go too. I have a few leads if you are in the Midatlantic region. (I'm in MD between DC and Baltimore)
