Good U.S. bulk grain prices?
Just returned from Utah and am heading back Friday for a few weeks. First grandchild will be born Monday!
Plan to bring back bulk grain in the RV, and finally get my grain mill running. What are considered reasonable current prices/lb for 20-25 lb of spelt, kamut, einkorn, hard red wheat, rye? Hope to check out Central Milling (only an hour from SLC vs. a horrible drive from Salinas to the CA shop), plus others. I have new 3-gallon LifeLatch containers ready and waiting (pretty cheap in sets at BayTech Containers). Thanks for your input!
I get Central Milling winter white and hard red berries for around $1.20 per pound for 25 pound bags.
Congratulations on the grandchild and on finally rounding up containers that you can easily use. I'm happy for your impending 'granny-hood' and just a little bit amused by the thought of a child born on Labor Day. The best price I've found on hard red was for 50lbs bagged by Augason Farms and delivered by Amazon Prime around $0.65/lb. They pack much of their grain for long-term storage and that packaging is accounted for, I'm sure, in their pricing but if you buy it bagged you'll probably save some money. Check them out while you're in SLC.
Your info is added to my list. We were surprised by the Labor Day delivery, but she needs a C-section so no "labor" until she gets home. Her OB is only in Monday as she's getting married Saturday.
I just made a post about containers under Grains/Milling - Life Latch containers. Back to packing the RV. Will monitor TFL while away and hope to do some baking for my daughter and son-in-law, who will have a baby girl to care for.
There is also a Honeyville Outlet in Ogden you may want to check out. It's not far of the I15. The store phone # is listed on their site if you want to check their inventory.
And if you haven't been to CM before you may want to call ahead of time to make sure they have what you are after. There isn't a store and are limited to buying what they have in stock. They typically have what I need but there was one time the Logan Plant had already shipped all of the Beehive flour to Collinston so they were out.
