Cuisinart CBK-200 2-Pound Convection Automatic Breadmaker - Anyone have it?
I am looking to buy a second bread machine to back up my original Oster 2-lb. Expressbake, which I use 2-3 times per week. I have read endless reviews on various brands, including the Zo, Panasonic, Breville, WestBend, Breadman, etc., etc. and have settled on this one. My Oster is an inexpensive but reliable, no-nonsense (& no frills) machine that gets the job done every time and I have no complaints. However, rather than buying the exact same machine, I am interested in this Cuisinart model as it has gluten-free and low-carb settings. Anyone have one who could shed some light on its performance, reliability and ease-of-use? Thanks in advance.
Hi Karen, I don't have that machine so I can't speak from experience. However, have you seen the reviews for it, on the Cuisinart site? Some people sound rather unhappy with the machine, so it's worth taking a look at their comments. http://www.cuisinart.ca/cuisinart_product.php?item_id=11
... and yes, I agree, they were less than favorable. I just now ordered from my old brand - Oster - because they have a new version of my current machine: http://www.oster.com/kitchen-appliances/bread-makers/oster-2-lb.-bread-maker-with-gluten-free-setting/CKSTBR9050.html
This one has a gluten-free setting. It's not convection, but that's not a concern. I called the company directly and was offered a 15% discount plus free shipping, so I grabbed it. I have had such wonderful results from my Oster 2-lb. Expressbake that I am confident that this new one will be a great little performer. I want to be able to make bread and dough at the same time... having the 2 machines will enable me to do just that.
The customer service at Oster is excellent. They are friendly & helpful, and I do love their machines. They're not on the same level as a $200+ Zo, but I've found I don't need to spend that much to get wonderful results from a no-frills Oster that costs under $100. I've made everything from hotdog & hamburger (sesame!) rolls to pizza dough, Potato bread, caraway rye, French, Italian herb, Honey whole wheat, date-nut, pumpernickel, garlic bread, etc. and even homemade jam using organic frozen berries (super-yum!). Sometimes I let it bake in the machine, other times I remove it and finish it off in the oven. Great results every time.
I also found that weighing my flour makes all the difference in the quality of my bread machine bread. Thanks for weighing in. Will post an update once I've put my new Oster through the hoops.
Hi Karen, I'm glad you saw the reviews about the Cuisinart bread maker. There's nothing worse than buying something and having troubles with the product. Your new Oster machine sounds like it is terrific, especially if you're able to make all of those breads, pizza dough, hamburger buns, etc. Hope you'll enjoy using it, and all the best with your baking. Take care.
