Marias River Farm - Quality?

Hi,

Does anyone know about the wheat from Marias River Farm? They have a small web presence and their website says they are 5th generation wheat farmers... http://www.mariasriverfarms.com/products.php.

At 25 lb for $30 for Dark Northern Spring (Hard Red) Wheat berries, it seems like a pretty good deal, and they said "chemical-free" grains, but I emailed to ask about what exactly that means and how they deal with pests/insects.

A user named GrainLover posted a link to their site, but I haven't heard anything from anyone else, so I wanted to get people's opinions about it.

Please chime in with feedback, if you can speak from experience! Thanks!

In case anyone was wondering...they emailed back the very next day, with a very thoughtful and thorough response about pests and chemical-free growing. What great customer service!

I ended up buying this wheat. It arrived promptly and in some food grade heavy duty bags, 12.5 lbs x 2 bags. I milled the berries in my new Komo Fidibus, and wow, the flour is so fragrant! I love it! I couldn't wait for my sourdough to hurry and get lively again, so I made scallion pancakes. Believe it or not, whole wheat scallion pancakes can taste rather amazing...it's totally the flour.

I strongly strongly recommend Marias River Farms for a wheat berries source.
