Sandwich roll bake
This is a recipe for soft sandwich rolls by John Kirkwood. You can find him on Youtube. I've tried quite a few of his recipes, and find they work quite well. So, with this recipe, I got a crisp exterior and a soft pillowy interior. They look like his rolls in the video, but I find the color a bit off-putting, so I need to find a way to brown them up without making the too dry/hard. This is quite an easy recipe, though.
Perhaps you have already tried this. I usually do an egg and a little splash of water. For extra browning you could do a splash of milk or half and half.
I haven't tried anything, as this is the first time making this recipe. Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm not experienced with this at all, but he bakes the buns at 355F for 16 minutes, which seems like a very short time to me. I would guess that if you want them browner you just need to bake them longer. He even says that in his video.
Although these are soft buns, it looks to me like they're mainly just soft because of the low baking temperature and short baking time, since the dough's not enriched at all except for 1 tbsp of oil for 500g of flour. If you want browned soft dinner rolls, you might actually need a different recipe altogether, one that includes some sugar, milk, eggs, or butter. If you really want to keep this recipe, I'd be tempted to try adding some extra oil and replacing some of the water with milk.
