Bay's English Muffin Clone

I find the Bay's muffins to be light airy and full of deep nooks and crannies. Great when toasted. I have tried many EM recipes, but they all seem to fall into the dense bread muffin class. I'd like to ask if any of you folks have tried to produce a EM using self-rising flour, if so how'd it turn out for you? Thank you
