Looks perfect to me. Great sheen on the crust, too. Egg yolk? Or just good oven steam?

I baked it in a roasting pan for the first 15 minutes, trying for a roundy top crust.
I like that sheen effect. I only get it when there's enough moisture early in the bake. I don't think it affects the taste or mouth feel but I like the appearance.
And look at the blisters! It's a thing of beauty, all right.
Artisan bread is delicious, but you've gotta have soft sandwich bread for egg salad. It's a law.
