Mistakenly used Saco Pantry Cultured Buttermilk Blend in my starter...

I was putting together the ingredients for a sourdough starter. I had intended to use a dry buttermilk and foudn that I purchased (and used) Saco Pantry's Cultured Buttermilk Blend instead. I see that the blend has citric acid, cream, and whey added to it. Can anyone tell me if I should toss the mixture and start anew in the morning? This starter is for a sourdough and I am not sure if the blend will cause problems in the starter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much, Cat

Are you building an existing starter, or beginning a new one? If building an existing starter, I would just keep going. Depending on how much inoculant you use in your loaf, I doubt it will make much difference. And if you have time to do one more build, it definitely won't.

If you are beginn9ng a new starter, I really don't know. Again, if you discard and feed, I think you will be OK as the additional ingredients become diluted.

Thank you.

It is a new starter. I think I will keep it going and see what happens but also go ahead and begin a new one with the correct ingredients.

That makes sense. I would also be tempted to discard most of it at this stage and carry on from there. Not sure what method you are using.
