Bakeries to visit in Peru?

My son and I are heading to Peru for a week, does anybody in this distinguished group have recommendations for bakeries I should drag him to for local breads?  We will be in Lima, Paracas, and Cusco.  Thanks!!

nice.  You will need some carbs for that.

Ha!!  He likes clif bars, but I suspect he'll like your idea better.

I just spent 6 weeks in Peru. I was based in Miraflores, Lima. I didn't come across any really great bread shops (that doesn't mean they don't exist). But I dined at 2 of Gaston's Acurio's restaurants, "Astrid y Gaston" and "Panchita" The bread they served there was out of this world. The food is great too. The tasting menu at the former is one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had - much better than the French Laundry!

Thanks!!  I was aiming for Panchita but didn't make it there.  We did hit El Pan de la Cholla in Lima (Miraflores) which was incredible, on par with Tartine in San Francisco.  Found some good marketplace bread in Cusco as well.

Hi

I wish I read this before! I think Cusco has some of the best breads in the world! A lot of hotels give their clients the breads you are used to eating like baguettes or toast. There are so many wonderful artisanal breads like pan huaro similar to pita bread which is the everyday bread for us. Then pan chuta which is a special delicious bread that is the size of a cake it is eaten with fresh cheese usually because it is slightly sweet and with the salty cheese it is the perfect combination. Then pan jurka which now is more available to the public it looks like a hat or a two story cake that’s rounded. That bread is similar to challa (Jewish) bread, but in my opinion much better! It is a sort of cake-bread it is sweet dense and usually eaten with some butter. The list just goes on and on! If you are ever back in Cusco let me know! People from Cusco are also very friendly and if you ask them for traditional and loca breads or food they will tell you!
