Bread Ahead Bakery & School, London, England
On the way to a concert last night I stumbled across the "Bread Ahead Bakery & School", at London's famous Borough Market, close to London Bridge Station and The Shard building:
http://www.breadahead.com/courses.
As the pianist, Angela Hewitt, wasn't going to delay her performance just for me, I only had time to grab a leaflet from the counter and get to the auditorium, but from a quick glance, the School certainly looks well-equipped.
I'm interested to hear whether anyone has tried a course there? GB£160 is quite expensive for a one-day workshop, but if the instruction is good, I'd quite like to give it a try.
Best wishes, and happy baking! Colin.
Plenty up and down the country (and I run courses in Devon if you ever fancy a holiday down this way :-) and price varys depending on location (They're about double what I charge, but others in Devon also charge more, depending on how long they've been doing it, and what else they're doing) and "Persona" (The places/people who've been on TV can be double that again)
I'd been making bread for a long time when I decided to do a course (or 2) a few years back - not so much to learn how to make bread, but to get a better understanding and practice shaping and handling techniques - watching someone handle and shape wetter doughs then having the opportunity to do it, while someone is watching to help tune the technique was quite valuable to me.
It's also a great social day out too - get to meet new like-minded people, exchange ideas and so on.
Go to the real bread campaign web site - they have a place for people who run courses, also Bakery Bits - they also have a page on courses, etc. (which reminds me, I think I need to submit mine to those sites now!)
Cheers,
-Gordon
