Having the daughter
home for the summer means 2 lunch sammys every day. Something to look forward to! One was semolina SD with brie, chicken and pepper jack grilled cheese with home made Dijon mustard. Made another batch of mustard today but it tales 6 weeks to mature - not that it lasted that long :-( The other sammy has two different SD and YW starters mixed in the same bread but each slice is a different variety. It is served with our vapor aged white cheddar and pepper jack Mac and Cheese that is modestly flavored with Thai red curry paste. - Yummy!

Mr. D.
Your food always looks so darn good and one of the reasons is your gift of combining such an array of colors and textures into your meals. No wonder your daughter comes home for summer with lunches like this to look forward to! How lucky she is to have a dad who takes the time to make such appetizing meals. I imagine she suffers a lot when she goes back to school and is faced with 'instutionalized' cooking :-) I imagine your apprentice must suffer a bit of sibling rivalry upon her return.....
Thanks for the post and photos!
Take Care,
Janet
good bread. Color, texture variety and interesting combinations of flavors are what makes them great. She wanted her dad to cook at her sorority this past year but that was never ever going to happen. Now that she is moving into an apartment for the first time next year, she wants to learn to cook and bake. She knows how to make a sandwich but the bread part is still a month away. Thankfully she and her sister, my apprentice, are inseparable when they are together.
Thanks for you kind words as always Janet - your brood isn't starving with you being a good cook and baker. They too are lucky to have you as a home chef.
Sounds good. Similar at my house in that my kids really have no idea everyone doesn't eat this way. One day they'll learn!
I didn't grow up eating well, as in healthy, or in any way close to the way we eat today - never knew what we were missing. But my daughter is spoiled to no end being an only child and thinks that sushi is a right guaranteed in the constitution somewhere and to serve it without eel sauce is a crime - even though there is no eel in ell sauce :-) Go figure!
You're killing me DA! Another amazing spready you've put together. That mac and cheese sure isn't from some crappy blue box, now is it?
Is there anything you don't make yourself? :)
Thanks for sharing and making me hungry and jealous as usual.
Best,
ian
currently not growing any Veggies since it is 105 F today and will be for the next 150 days and not raising any livestock either but teketeke has me wanting chickens really bad after seeing pitures of her Bumpy. Yesterday was Dijon mustard (takes forever), today was Italian and chorizo sausage and tomorrow will be 2 kinds of jam and some ciabatta with chia seeds (couldn't resist). I'm not allowed to bake or make stuff on the weekends :-)
This mac & cheese was bacon fried, then onions caramelized in the bacon fat, then a bechamel made from the bacon and onion drippings and then a Thai red curry kicker was added to go with the ancient, vapor, white cheddar and pepperjack cheese. Surprising how well it turned out. Just plain and simple delicious. You need to make a bread with these ingredients too. You won't be disappointed!
Hope the sales meeting goes well and am glad I no longer have to worry about them :-)
Hmmm....Thai Curry in a bread with some onions and cheese......I could work with that :)
I hopefully will be putting my heirloom tomatoe seedlings in the ground this weekend along with the cukes and peppers. My wife grows them in her small Pop-up greenhouse. Hopefully we will have a good dry summer and a bountiful crop so I can trade you some tomatoes for some of your goodies :).
Sales meeting went well....but that was the easy part...now I have to accomplish everything I promised including getting my prices down from a 15% increase! Anyway...hopefully I can do some baking this weekend before I leave for another trek to North Carolina next week.
Look forward to reading about your next culinary creation.
Ian
By Gods of baking and everything good!!!
this looks amazing!
I'm myself somwhat an ammature cook\baker. I cook for my kids mostly, for lunch breaks. because the cantine in their school is not up to my standards. My chocolate banana muffins are better. If any newcomer is interested, I found a number of recepies for kids in the article by Pumkin Spice https://www.pumpkinnspice.com/30-fast-and-easy-back-to-school-breakfasts/.
I got my chocolate banana muffins from there (actually it's from another blog) I guess the link is still there, if anybodyn is interested
