Brick ovens near Savanna ?
I have 4 days to explore Savanna Ga. during the day while my wife is working. We're going to head out of Northwest Ohio July 18th & I'd love to fill my time with hearth baked breads. Contacts or names of restaurants would be greatly appriciated.
I'm making a motorcycle vacation for me out of a conferance trip to Savanna that my wife is required to attend & I am hoping to visit wood fired masonry ovens in the area.

Like to see it, got any time to show it off 9 to 5 time frame maybe tues or wednesday that week?
I've got an oven project here that I'll share some pics of when it's a little further along. I'm building it at work out of salvaged materials. The oven itself is right out of bread builders but the base is creative to say the least.

We check in at Savanna july 19th late afternoon. I'm splitting the ride down in two, a fourteen hour ride in the car is about 20 hours on the rode on a bike & I'm not quite that dedicated. We lived in the low country years ago so I'm familiar with the heat. Let me have an e mail & I'll let you know what day. It will be a great day trip while Peggy's working.
Looking forward to seeing your oven.

Hi,
We stopped in here once on a road trip. They did a trout in the oven that was wonderful. I can't speak for breads.... here though.
Ga and NC used to be peppered with grain mills.... keep an eye out. You might find a place to get some really good fresh ground flours for your baking. Many of the mills are now historical sites and not milling any longer.
Happy Trails,
Lisa
thanks for the info I'll check around. I get out to Hilton Head every now and then I'll have to go by and check it out in Savannah

Googled Leoci's & another called Blue Coyote near Hilton Head that advertises a large brick oven. I'm really looking forward to seeing these WFO's as I get closer to laying the first hearth brick, can't wait for this vacation to start. Cliiff I'll give you a call once I'm in Savanna.

I think both of those are commercial built oven and from what I have been able to gather they are made different than what we would hand build and they operate differently as well although the theory behind it is similar
