My latest loaf
This is how most of my loaves turn out, I'm not sure if that is how they are supposed to look or not. They taste very nice and as I put some olive oil in they tend to last quite well too. I do think they don't seem to be as tall as I had expected though and I have no idea if they should rise more.
Lyn
I cannot say to you how it is supposed to look.
How do I know what the baker (you) wanted the loaf to be?
I for sure can say: It looks good and I'd like to have a slice!
Adrian
See I am not a very experienced bread maker! Show me a cake and I can tell if it's how it "should" look, but with bread I am just not very confident. My sister makes her own wholemeal bread in a bread machine and has compared her bread to mine unfavourably in that in her words "my bread is taller and more like a loaf of bread should be". As you say Adrian, how is it supposed to look, I wish I knew! I guess it just doesn't seem as tall as the supermarket bread, but then of course it isn't a supermarket loaf.
Lyn
Maybe so Lyn, but many of us avoid supermarket bread like the plague!
Does your sister know what they put in that stuff?
And she's using a bread machine, which is fine by me, but it's hardly the same as producing something with your own hands now is it?
Best wishes
Andy
Hi Andy, yes totally agree about supermarket bread. I only started baking bread because I got back into baking cakes and bought a Kenwood Kmix and of course it has the dough hooks! I was quite convinced I would never make bread as the last time I had made some, which was back in the late 70's, it came out more like a doorstop! Since making my own bread though I haven't bought any supermarket bread and hope never to have to again as it's just so awful. I only use the mixer to mix up the dough as I quite enjoy kneading the bread by hand, it's very therapeutic :)
