Bread in Vilnius etc

I was in Vilnius, Lithuania recently, and happened to walk through a street fair; here are photos from a bread stand in the fair, with some nice dark rye and a portable ceramic bread oven.

Bread Stand - Vilnius Street Fair

Our package tour included Scandinavia and the Baltics, all places where smoked and pickled fish on rye bread is an everyday thing (as it is in our San Diego condo).

My palate isn't what it used to be but I don't recall any really outstanding breads.  They were pretty good and various ryes were easy to find.

The sweet pastries, like cardamom  buns in Denmark, were really good.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. The rye looks very nice. Did you see them baking in the portable oven?

The ovens we saw that were open were either cold or being heated with burning wood inside,

The stand had some small pieces of bread to sample; it was OK, not spectacular, but my palate is not what it was.

Would be very interesting to see that oven in action.

In action, it would be closed up and just sitting there.

But I would like to see the product come out, and try it after it cooled.

'In action' means the entire event, not just 'it sitting there closed up'.

Oh, yes! Cardamom buns are out of this world. Their softness and aromatic filling are just amazing!
